Eaves have a benefit of protecting walls and windows. But they come at a cost. Instead of including eaves on all sides of your home or addition, consider either eliminating them altogether or having them only on the front of your home or only on the south and west sides of your home where they will be most effective in minimizing the effects of the sun. If you are committed to either the appearance or the benefits of eaves on all sides of the house, you can still save a good bit by reducing the overhang.
