If you have the skills, you might be able to reduce the cost of your project by doing the rough electrical work. Rough electrical work is principally routing the wires through the wall framing to provide electricity to outlets, lights and light switches. Again, you will need to check on local building codes and requirements. Electrical work generally must meet defined specifications and must pass inspection. Be sure to consider where you are installing electrical wiring and the amount of heat it will emit, as well as the amount of current it will need to transmit. When working in an attic, for example, the insulation and coating on the wire can be very important. You will also need to consider dampness in positioning wiring and outlets. To give you peace of mind, hire a licensed electrician to connect the wiring you installed to the electrical service and to look over the work you have done to ensure no mistakes were made.
