Tip #304: Don't buy cheap switches and outlets - they won't last, particularly if used frequently and regularly, and you will need to replace them

Although it may seem wise to purchase cheap switches and outlets for your remodel or addition, this will not save you money over the long run. Cheap switches simply don't last. You will find that you must replace them far too soon. This is particularly true with switches and outlets that are used frequently and regularly. For example, the switch for the primary light fixture that you place just inside the door to a room will be used frequently and regularly. Buying a good switch for this location will mean it doesn't need to be replaced as soon. The same principle applies to outlets that are used daily, such as bathroom outlets used for hair dryers or electric shavers. This is a case in which saving on price by buying inferior quality will not save money over the long run.
