Tip #255: Don't install a backsplash above kitchen countertops

Installing a backsplash above kitchen or bathroom countertops can add expense to your project. You can save money by not installing a backsplash. The two most common areas for backsplashes are around a sink or behind a stove. When you consider the cost of materials and labor, you will probably decide you can do without the backsplash. Using a washable paint can eliminate the need for a backsplash. If you find that there is a significant amount of splashing of the wall, you can always put up a simple (and very inexpensive) plastic wall covering in those areas.
