 Instead of replacing lighting fixtures, consider refinishing the surfaces of the fixtures. While you might not want to ruin good brass, other types of light fixtures - metals or wood - can be reconditioned with either a new coat of paint or a new finish. The right paint or finishing materials can save you hundreds of dollars on light fixture replacement. Be sure you know what kind of material you plan to paint or refinish. Ask a sales associate in a paint, hardware or home improvement store to help you select the right refinishing materials. Then just tape the parts of the fixture you don't want to change, and spray away! There are spray paints and finishes that will allow you to create almost any finish you want.
