Tip #216: Use a single heat pump instead of separate furnace and air conditioning units

A heat pump works by moving air (pumping air). In the winter, a heat pump removes heat from the outside and pumps it into the inside of the house. In summer, it does the reverse. There are several types of heat pumps that should be considered before you decide on a particular model. Heat pumps function for both heating and cooling your home. You need one system instead of two. Heat pumps are also very efficient, converting more than three times the energy required to operate them into heating or cooling output.
