Tip #181: Use Vinyl or Engineered Material for Flooring

Engineered materials, including vinyl, are less expensive than natural materials to purchase and install. These engineered materials are often made in patterns and designs that look very much like natural materials. For example, it is possible to purchase vinyl floor covering that looks like tile.

Rather than paying the cost of real hardwood floors, you can purchase an engineered laminate that looks like hardwood. You can also purchase ceramic tile that looks like granite or marble. If you are buying flooring for a large area, the savings achieved by using engineered materials can be significant. With a little time and effort, you can probably find an engineered material that looks very much like most any natural material you might choose.
